The bread and butter of my blog centres around play. Yet curiously enough, I don’t spend much time playing WITH my children. I set up. I supervise. If it’s really interesting play, I take a zillion photos. I clean.
This week I’ve tried to consciously spend more time playing with my kids, especially one-on-one (this isn’t always possible with four kids at home). I don’t spend hours playing with them, but aim for at least 15 minutes. It’s been so enjoyable! I try and resist the urge of taking photos, but some moments are just too good to miss, so I take a quick snap shot with my phone camera. Here’s my favourite Instagram of the week:
- Sunny Sweet Life: Rainbow Week Fun.A series of fantastic rainbow themed activities.
- At home with Ali: An accidental art prompt. A gorgeous simple swirly doodle painting for any age.
- A day in the life of the Brown family: Noah’s ark Toddler Activities. Check out the gorgeous yarn rainbow!

I sometimes think the downside of blogging is that we are constantly thinking about what is ‘blog worthy’ rather than enjoying the moment. I have tried to put my camera down more often too and just get in and get messy with the kids. So much more fun.
It looks like it’s going to be another great collection of ideas in the co-op today. Thanks for hosting.
I agree, there is a struggle to not be obsessed with what’s “blog worthy”. I needed a good reminder that play precedes my blogging. It is much more fun to follow our children’s lead.
I don’t actively play with my kids much either… and I think that is just fine. Sometimes I join in if it is an activity I enjoy like painting, or dancing, or if I have an urge to build a castle…. and sometimes they join in if I am doing something they particularly enjoy, like washing the dishes or cooking dinner…. but I don’t feel obliged to play with my kids all the time, and I think that works well for all of us.
I’m so comforted to hear that I’m not the only one Kate (and that I’m in such good company
).
