What’s new?

Have you got a list of resolutions to get through during this new year? Only 24 hours ago I was with my family heralding the new year with an explosive display of fireworks. Only 20 hours ago I made my list of resolutions to get through in 2012. At the end of day 1, 2012 I’m already thinking of scraping my list and here’s why.

What’s new?

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

[From the Bible, the inspired, “God-breathed” word of God, Ezekiel 36:25-28]

What’s new?

I am a new person in Christ:

  • I am cleansed and God’s child. Through my trust in Jesus am I now fit to be identified as part of God’s chosen people;
  • I have a new heart that is now able to be consumed with the glory of God;
  • I have a new home that will be free of death, free of pain, free of sin. I will be with my Heavenly Father in a place of everlasting peace, safety and comfort.

What’s new?

Resolutions are about us striving for something better. In Christ, I already am a new person: I am cleansed and God’s child; I have a new heart that is eager to love my God; I have a new home with my Father in a place of everlasting peace, safety and comfort. In Christ I already have all these things. My new year’s resolutions seem so petty and short sighted.

What’s new?

In Christ I am a new person.
