I used to relish that time after school when I headed outdoors for some play. I would go around, find some treasure (usually in the form of a pinecone) and bury it. I would use a stick, dig a hole and bury that treasure. Then I would spend considerable time finding ways to discreetly mark it so that I could find it again the next day. I think my favourite way was to mark it with an X and heap a whole lot of leaves on top of it. From memory, I never managed to find my buried treasure. (Obviously, my treasure hiding skills were too thorough.)

My children love collecting things when they head outdoors for some play. I’m sure they’ll be burying their own treasures before I know it.
