Where do I want to be in 5 years? Where do I want my family to be in 5 years? I dream of a bigger home, in the right suburb, with my kids in the right schools. But I guess that’s not really that important. Deep down inside, as long as we’re all in good health and as long as we’re happy – that’s what I want.

 
Then I am asked, “Is God enough?“.

 
It’s like I’ve just been slapped in the face.

 

 

God is Enough

 
It’s Sunday morning. A voice reads Revelation 5….

 
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
(Revelation 5:13 ESV)

 
The congregation remains silent. After a pregnant pause, the preacher hurriedly gets up to the pulpit. He was so engrossed by the magnitude of the scripture reading, that he had forgotten that he was up next.

 
The preacher was not alone in being gripped by the magnitude of God’s glory that morning.

 
When I read Revelation 5, my insides tremble. It’s wonderfully grand and powerful. Imagine hearing every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea and all that is in them saying such praises in unison! WOW.

 
God is huge. I am puny. I am the ant holding hands with the elephant.

 
God is enough.

 
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
(Psalm 73:25-26 ESV)

 
God is enough. In the good times and the bad, God is enough. In sickness and in health, God is enough. When I have cause to rejoice, God is enough. When I have cause to mourn, God is enough.

 
When life seems like ground-hog day and I’m plodding along, getting older by the day, God is enough.
