At my son's school we have a buddy bench in the playground. If you feel lonely or are waiting to be asked to play, you can sit and someone will join you. It could be an adult member of staff or an older child who is a playground buddy. It's a lovely scheme all round.

I'm dealing with this exact situation with my son who is in first grade at a new school in a new state. Tonight he cried out and wept right before bed as he shared how lonely and upset he is everyday during play time. I had no idea. I'm crying as I type this because he didn't ask to leave his friends from his old school. They all got along so well as did the parents. I pray his days get better and he starts to make friends soon. My son loves to read new book so I plan to go and by the suggested books hoping that it continues the conversation and helps his confidence. Thank you!!!

I think that parents set the example. Children learn by example. When Moms fight with Dad or Dad's complain about people at work I think children pick up on these negative criticisms. If you want your child to be approachable teach them at home talk good things and when you have to complain, do it between 2 adults no in ear shot of the children.
